M06 - Home Page Navigation (part 2)

Here it is. Once school is done with I'm going to develop it into an actual site. I designed both desktop and mobile versions as we are in a very mobile world now. The only thing I'm not 100% certain about is the drop shadows in the boxes over the images - I may simply make them flat. What do you guys think?

Enjoy!

M06 - Home Page Navigation (part 1)

I've been wanting to redesign my site for awhile, however I've honestly just been too lazy. I knew going into this module exactly how I wanted my site to look after doing a lot of patterning. Below are my sketches - my website today is to showcase my acting career, however I'm more corporate than stage these days so I need to balance the two worlds. I plan on doing that with large images and sub sites that focus on each core area of my world.

Looking forward to getting this into Photoshop FINALLY.

Enjoy,

M05 - Avatar (part 2)

Here you go.

Lots of adjustment layers, hues, clipping masks, and other fun stuff.

I went the "elf" route.

I kind of look like Owen Wilson meets the joker.

Enjoy,

M05 - Avatar Part 1

I went into this knowing what I wanted to do, therefore my sketches are again less than the requirement.

To celebrate The Force Awakens, I decided to go the Star Wars route and create an avatar based on a character from that particular universe.

This should be fun.

Best.

Module 4 - Book Cover (part 2)

Based on feedback from part 1, I went the album route. I'm not 100% pleased with how this came out. I would have preferred to use photos of the albums instead of creating them in Photoshop, however I assume that would defeat the purpose of this class!

At any rate, enjoy.

The photo of PP & M came from: http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.407802!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/article_970/alg-peter-paul-and-mary-jpg.jpg

Module 4 - Book Cover (part 1)

Hi all,

This was yet another tough one. I don't particularly find myself drawn to Jazz, Folk or modern classical (whatever that is) so I wasn't entirely sure who to focus on! I ended up going with Peter, Paul and Mary since I grew up near Paul Stookey's summer home in Maine. I don't know much of their music outside of Puff the Magic Dragon and I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane but it's a folk group so - win.

I only came up with three sketches for this:

1) Image of Peter, Paul and Mary (early or later - not sure yet).
2) Three mic stands on a stage
3) Their records
4) Okay I didn't draw a fourth but as I write this I would be remiss if I didn't offer up a cover with some sort of animated dragon on it, made of smoke perhaps? Ha.

At any rate, I thought an appropriate title for a biography on the trio would be: "The best of...", which is also the name of their greatest hits album.

Now that I think of it, "The best of..." could connote that there are no "worst of" moments in their lengthy career... although I do like playing this as a sort of "greatest hits" biography. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Best,

Module 3 - Awareness Poster

This was a tough one. I couldn't come up with the requisite 12 sketches - I struggled to get to 7. This is such an overly saturated topic that it seems like most of the good ideas have already been done so brain, don't fail me now.

Here's what I landed with:

1) Empire state building melting to promote climate change.
2) Manhattan crumbling like an iceberg to promote climate change as well.
3) Body in coffin with a cigarette in hand. Stop smoking.
4) This one was inspired by a photo a friend shared with me from a recent trip she took to Bosnia. It's a sky with mortar bruises in it - the message is that we all live under the same sky. Promote peace.
5) Iceberg on fire - climate change.
6) Depression - a black backdrop with a light shimmering in the distance, you're not alone. There's help, etc. etc.
7) Noose made of cigarettes - it's the same thing - quit smoking.

We'll see where this goes.

Thanks,
AP

Module 2 CP - Photomontage (Part 1)

Design Brief:Create a photomontage for a fictitious artist or band.

Commentary:My first challenge was thinking of the name of the album to help inspire the direction of the photomontage.

After some thinking I came up with the band name: MOLT (which is the acronym for the leadership team I serve on at work), and the album title "Everything's an Argument" - which was the name of a book sitting on my coffee table. I thought it was appropriate since everything IS an argument among the marketing operations leadership team. It was apropos.

At any rate, I began my sketching:

I was trying to come up with ideas that would represent office politics, or even arguments in general. However number 4 intrigued me. First, it left the concept of "everything's an argument", instead I went with "compromise" (still in line with my fickle and argumentative leadership team).

Compromise was eventually what I pursued.

The original concept was a tree in the foreground, with a city scape in the background. Windows would be in the leaves of the tree. Almost as if to compromise for the sake of the environment, instead of tearing a tree down we turned the tree into an apartment building... compromise. Again, I went away from the original theme of office politics.

Finding images:
I resorted to the internet for photographs. I came upon https://pixabay.com, which provides royalty free, creative commons imagery that can be used anywhere without reference (score).

I needed a tree, some windows, and

I collected the following:

The end result:
The images were composited all together to create my initial vision. I played with the levels of each image to go for an almost "painted" effect to get away from the photographic element.

I also experimented with lighting effects to add some depth to the image.

Straying again from my original concept, I decided that the city scape would be viewed through the windows, instead of behind the tree.

If you notice, the windows are actually on the outside - you would think that you would be looking into a house, however you're looking OUT into the city view. Changing the idea that the city is actually inside the tree...

Enjoy,
